Master's programme in European Business Studies

European Business Studies is a master's study program that connects business studies, economics, law, project management, and an understanding of the European institutional environment. It is intended for students who want to develop knowledge for project leadership, strategic decision-making, and work in companies, public institutions, and other organizations connected to the European business environment.

The program emphasizes the integration of business and legal knowledge with an understanding of European institutions, policies, and project funding methods. Students develop analytical, leadership, and research competencies, as well as the ability to solve complex business and organizational challenges.

European Business Studies for understanding the European business environment

Modern business requires an understanding of the broader environment in which companies and other organizations operate. European legislation, institutions, development policies, funding, and international cooperation directly influence many business and project decisions.

European Business Studies therefore combines business knowledge with an understanding of the political, economic, legal, and social environment of the European Union. Students learn to assess the impact of European policies on organizations and to plan projects and business decisions within a broader European context.

An important emphasis is also placed on the project-based approach. This is useful in developing new business opportunities, implementing development projects, and participating in national and international programs.

What does the master's program in European Business Studies include?

The master's program in European Business Studies combines business, legal, economic, and project-related content. Students first gain a broader understanding of the European system and then build on this knowledge with project management content and the selected study specialization.

The curriculum includes, among other things:

  • the European political and economic-legal system,
  • European institutions, networks, and lobbying,
  • project management,
  • management of European projects,
  • legal aspects of European projects,
  • funding of European projects,
  • project portfolio management,
  • research methods and a systems approach,
  • ethics and professional standards.

The program thus enables students to understand the entire process of a European project—from its planning and legal foundations to funding, management, and strategic placement within an organization.

European Project Management or the Development of Smart Cities and Communities

In the second year, students can direct their knowledge into one of two content areas.

The European Project Management specialization deepens knowledge of managing European projects, project communication, managing project risks and changes, and linking projects with the organization's strategy. The content also includes modern leadership, digitalization, and project management.

The Economic Development of Regions – Smart Cities and Communities specialization focuses on the development of cities, regions, and local communities. It addresses quality of life, local and regional development strategies, digital health, and the use of modern technologies in the development of smart cities and communities.

The elective structure allows students to direct the master's studies more closely according to their professional interests and planned career path.

What business and leadership competencies do students acquire?

Students develop knowledge for analyzing the business environment, strategic thinking, project management, and decision-making in different organizational environments. An important part of the study is the ability to connect economic, legal, and organizational factors.

During their studies, they develop competencies for:

  • preparing and managing European projects,
  • understanding European institutions and development policies,
  • strategic planning and decision-making,
  • managing project risks and changes,
  • analyzing business and organizational processes,
  • leading teams and project groups,
  • effective business and project communication,
  • independent research and professional work.

The knowledge acquired is applicable both in the economy and in the public and non-profit sectors.
