Daniel Siter, Rogaška Slatina under the Swastika: A Spa Town under Occupation 1941–1945, 2nd (supplemented, revised and expanded) edition
General overview:
The historian, doctoral candidate and researcher at Alma Mater Europaea – ISH as well as an external associate and researcher at the International Research Centre for the Second World War Maribor published, in 2021 with the AMEU – ISH publishing house, the first scholarly monograph on the four-year Nazi occupation of the spa municipality of Rogaška Slatina and the repressive and destructive actions of the local occupier’s authorities. The publication symbolically coincides with the jubilee 80th anniversary of Hitler’s army’s invasion of Rogaška Slatina and its occupation.
In Slovenian historiography, it represents a pioneering scholarly work and the most important and most comprehensive fundamental reference literature on the Nazi occupation of Rogaška Slatina and the occupier’s denationalizing, Germanizing and genocidal actions here during the war years 1941–1945.
About the second edition:
A rich number of thematic sections have been supplemented with visual, content, design and graphic changes, novelties and improvements. It has gained a larger format and a harder cover. Existing photographs as well as reproductions of archival documents and other primary material have been enlarged. The book’s visual interior is enriched with more than 180 items of rare pictorial material.
With the second edition, the author opens up for readers even more vividly the darkest chapter in the place’s centuries-long history. Shocking stories of people are presented—subjected to denationalization, Germanization, terror, seizures, racial examinations, deportations to concentration camps, forced expulsions and mobilization, massacres and other irreversible atrocities.
A foreword to the second edition was added by the director of MNZC, Dr Tonček Kregar; the scholarly reviews were written by Dr Dr Igor Grdina and Dr Mojca Šorn; the editorial preface was prepared by the responsible editor of the AMEU – ISH publishing house, Dr Gašper Pirc.
