We do not only teach students knowledge, but also responsibility, a sense of humanity, and the awareness that quality practice is the foundation of a good physiotherapist. Without direct experience in a clinical environment, theory remains just a word.

The Therapy Institute was established in 2015 with a clear vision and mission to connect theoretical knowledge with practical experience and to provide physiotherapy students at Alma Mater Europaea University with quality, professionally guided, and practically oriented education.

Learning in a Clinical Environment

The institute closely collaborates with a private physiotherapy clinic, where the mentor Assoc. Prof. Tatjana Horvat, MSc Health Sciences, with more than 33 years of clinical experience, directly transfers knowledge and skills to students. Students thus get to know the profession of a physiotherapist in a real clinical environment and engage in in-depth therapeutic practice.

Comprehensive Patient Care

The Therapy Institute specializes in individual physiotherapeutic treatment of orthopedic and neurological patients as well as athletes. It focuses on a holistic approach to treatment, which includes both physical and functional rehabilitation, emphasizing the maintenance of quality of life.

Clinical Directions

Among the most common conditions treated are rehabilitation after orthopedic surgeries, chronic pain in the spine and joints, and neurological diseases such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson's disease. An important part of the work also includes programs for the elderly, aimed at maintaining their mobility functionality and independence.

Therapeutic Approaches

In patient treatment, proven manual therapeutic techniques, neurophysiological approaches (e.g., Bobath and PNF), and modern electrotherapy methods are used. The approach is always individually tailored and based on current guidelines and the extensive clinical experience of mentor Assoc. Prof. Tatjana Horvat, MSc Health Sciences, who also transfers knowledge to physiotherapy students.

Facilities and Equipment

The physiotherapy clinic operates in modernly equipped premises that enable safe, quality, and targeted therapy. The equipment meets the highest professional standards and fully complies with the conditions for performing private healthcare activities. Official permission from the Ministry of Health to operate was obtained in 2017.

The First Podiatry Clinic in Slovenia

A special breakthrough was achieved by the Therapy Institute in 2022 with the establishment of the first podiatry clinic in Slovenia. The clinic deals with preventive and therapeutic treatment of foot problems and quickly became a reference point in the field of podiatric care, significantly complementing the Slovenian healthcare space. Under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Barbara Toplak Perovič, the Therapy Institute is increasingly establishing itself as a professional, educational, and developmental center in the fields of physiotherapy and podiatry.
