Physiotherapy in Norway

Physiotherapy in Norway

7. 1. 2025

Leon Lorenci, a physiotherapy student, is currently on an Erasmus+ exchange in Oslo, where he has the opportunity to learn about unique physiotherapy approaches used in northern countries.

"One of the main features of physiotherapy in Norway is the emphasis on manual techniques, while therapeutic ultrasound (US) and electrotherapy are hardly used in many clinics. This indicates a strong focus on movement and active patient participation in the rehabilitation process," says the student and adds that

"it is especially interesting how approaches are adapted to different age groups. Older patients are often recommended to exercise with heavier weights, which can be surprising to many, as it is often associated with stronger training like powerlifting. Such an approach helps improve physical strength and mobility, which is crucial for rehabilitation after injuries, especially in older people."

Leon Lorenci considers the study exchange an excellent experience and is convinced that the acquired knowledge can also be used in domestic practice.
