The ISH Faculty of Alma Mater Europaea University invites you on 26 May 2026 to the ZRS Koper Centre for Humanities for the symposium »From Research to the Public: Science Communication in the Humanities and Social Sciences«.
At a time when information shapes society, it is no longer enough for research to remain trapped within academic circles. The key question is becoming: how can knowledge be brought closer to people – clearly, understandably, and at the same time professionally?
The symposium will bring together experts, researchers, students, science communicators, as well as representatives of the media and cultural institutions. The event offers a combination of lectures by international experts, panel discussions, and practical workshops that will shed light on the contemporary challenges and opportunities of science communication.
Among the keynote guests will be:
- Andreas Hadsel Opsvik (University of Bergen), an expert in digital storytelling and research communication,
- Dr. Meike Haken (Free University of Berlin), a researcher of the challenges of science communication,
- Dr. Jana Kolar (NUK), who will present an example of connecting research and the public,
- Dr. Gerald Hühner, who will speak about responsible communication without “fake news”.
The event will open reflection on how science can transcend the boundaries of academic space and actively participate in shaping society. Participants will explore:
- how to present complex research to the wider public,
- what the social role of scientists is today,
- how to establish dialogue between science, the media, and the public.
The symposium is also an excellent opportunity for students, as it offers insight into concrete practices of knowledge transfer and the development of competencies that are crucial for successful work outside the academic environment.
