What Awaits Europe? Security, Health, and the Future of Us All

IT'S ABOUT THE HUMAN 2025

The security and health of Europe's inhabitants are at a turning point. Rapid technological advancements, geopolitical tensions, migration flows, and a changing socio-political landscape are reshaping the functioning of European societies.

  • Ferenc Miszlivetz , professor at the University of Pannonia, director of the Institute for Advanced Studies Kőszeg

Main challenges of modern Europe

Europe faces challenges that require a redefinition of governance and cooperation. The world order, which was based on rules, has been shaken, bringing uncertainties but also opportunities to establish new models of political and economic stability. At the same time, European unity proves to be a complex process, as the formation of a common identity and political stability remains a demanding goal.

Technological progress indeed brings numerous advantages but also dangers, as it exceeds society's capacity for effective regulation. Opaque global actors and the monopolization of digital technologies affect security and democratic governance, requiring urgent reforms at the EU level.

Migration within Europe has become an inevitable process. Economic disparities and demographic changes influence the population decline in Western European countries without migration. This reality demands thoughtful integration policies that would enable the preservation of social balance.

The importance of health security and the future of Europe

The COVID-19 pandemic has further highlighted the importance of health security and societal resilience. Strengthening health systems and developing digital health solutions will be key factors for the long-term stability and sustainable development of the continent.

In these uncertain times, civil society, especially the youth, is the one that can significantly contribute to shaping Europe's future. Engagement, innovation, and international cooperation will be key factors in ensuring a stable and competitive future for the continent. European society needs strategic foresight and coordinated action if it wants to remain a relevant global actor in the coming decades.
