Muscle pain and fatigue are common problems faced by many people, whether due to physical exertion, daily activities, or various health conditions. Physiotherapy student Lucijan Cigale studied effective methods for alleviating these problems in his final thesis.
“One of the non-pharmacological methods that has gained wide recognition due to its positive effects is cryotherapy. This form of therapy, based on the use of cold, is used to relieve pain and reduce muscle fatigue,” highlights the graduate and explains that cryotherapy works in various ways, from reducing muscle inflammation to releasing endorphins that decrease the sensation of pain.
“The use of cold compresses, immersion in cold water, or even whole-body cryotherapy has been proven to reduce pain and accelerate muscle recovery. Cold reduces blood flow to the affected area, which leads to a decrease in swelling and inflammation, while also calming nerve endings, contributing to pain relief.”
Cryotherapy proves to be an effective non-pharmacological method for managing pain and skeletal muscle fatigue. Its positive effects on muscle regeneration, pain reduction, and improvement of overall well-being place it among key methods in rehabilitation and alleviation of muscle problems. Nevertheless, it is important that the technique is used under the supervision of a professional to ensure safe and optimal application.
