New scientific monograph on aging and healthy longevity

26. 1. 2026

A scientific monograph, Biomedical Foundations of Aging and the Pursuit of Healthy Longevity, by Prof. Dr. Tadej Strojnik, has been published by Alma Mater Press.

This is the first comprehensive Slovenian scientific work that addresses aging in an interdisciplinary way and integrates it into the concept of healthy longevity.

The book brings together contemporary insights from biology, medicine, and gerontology and emphasizes that aging is a process that can be scientifically understood, monitored, and guided. The author leads the reader from fundamental biological mechanisms to research-backed recommendations on the impact of lifestyle, diet, physical activity, sleep, and stress management on the quality of aging.

The monograph is intended for students and researchers of biomedical sciences, healthcare professionals, and everyone seeking scientifically grounded answers to the question of how to preserve vitality and functional youthfulness throughout life.

Over the last hundred years, human life expectancy has increased dramatically. While around 1900 it was under 50 years in many developed countries, today it exceeds 80 years. This is undoubtedly one of the greatest victories of modern medicine, hygiene, nutrition, and social progress. But behind the numbers lies a question that is becoming ever more crucial: how do we live in these additional decades?

Extending life in itself is not enough. The true value of a long life is revealed in its quality – how many years we spend free of chronic diseases, mentally sharp, physically independent, and socially included. The biology of aging is therefore not only the study of the natural process of aging, but above all the search for ways to maintain or even restore youthful functions – a science that increasingly intertwines with regenerative medicine, epigenetics, and an understanding of the complex interactions among genes, the environment, and lifestyle.
