In the spirit of its social responsibility and commitment to caring for vulnerable groups, Alma Mater Europaea University enabled participants of the Spominčica Activity Center to take part in a specially designed day of activities in Stanežiče.
The event at the Youth Golf Center was not merely a pleasant gathering, but a thoughtfully designed professional activity that reflects the university’s deep commitment to improving the quality of life of older adults and people with dementia.
Participants first learned about the history of golf, and then, under the guidance of Assist. Prof. Marko Vidnjevič, carefully planned movement exercises were carried out based on modern findings in physiotherapy, kinesiology, and nursing care. Through such approaches, Alma Mater demonstrates that it understands the importance of a holistic treatment of the individual, both on the physical and cognitive levels.
Connecting physiotherapy knowledge and practice
Golf proved to be an exceptionally suitable activity, as it promotes balance, coordination, concentration, and orientation, while also enabling therapy to be carried out in a stimulating natural environment. Activities like these have a proven positive impact on maintaining cognitive abilities, reducing stress, and strengthening the sense of inclusion and dignity in people with dementia.
The next day, participants continued with movement and socializing at Podgornikova in a relaxed yet content-rich atmosphere. A walk and group exercise in the park further reinforced the importance of regular physical activity and social connectedness, which are key factors for health and well-being.
Caring for the person and their quality of life
Through such initiatives, Alma Mater Europaea University actively helps shape a more inclusive society. With professional expertise, empathy, and concrete actions, the university demonstrates that it genuinely cares about people. Especially those who need additional support, understanding, and opportunities for a quality life. The event took place within the framework of the international GOLFTEGRATION project, in which Alma Mater Europaea University participates as an active partner. The project, implemented under the Erasmus+ Sport programme, is focused on promoting the inclusion of people with dementia in adapted sports activities such as golf and its pitch & putt format. In doing so, it makes an important contribution to maintaining and improving their physical abilities, cognitive functions, and overall well-being.
