Health & Academic Performance With Happy Children

Project duration: 1. 9. 2020 – 31. 8. 2023

Project leader: Dr. Goran Gumze

Financer: Erasmus+, KA2 Strategic Partnerships

Brief project description:

The purpose of the HAPCH project is to improve learning, promote health, and integrate physical activity into regular curricula with internationally and transculturally transferable PAAC materials and procedures developed in the HAPCH project. By replacing theoretical activities with a school physical activity program within the curriculum (PAAC), children will engage in physical activity while learning their curriculum. Using schools as an intervention setting reaches all socio-economic layers with the potential to reduce health inequalities. More specifically, the project will evaluate the effects of an extensive longitudinal intervention. The focus is on the following thematic areas: a) learning and cognition, b) nutrition and growth, including obesity, c) physical activity and physical health, d) mental health and quality of life.

A New Academic Path For EU Project Managers: Narrowing The Gaps To Enable Better Project Design And Management In Europe -

Project duration: 1. 12. 2022 – 31. 12. 2027

Project leader: Dr. Mladen Radujković

Financer: ERASMUS+, KA2

Brief project description:

The lack of a common knowledge framework on EU fund management has so far prevented the development of standardized, common, and recognized curricula in the higher education sector to support the increased demand for experts in EU-funded projects. At universities, knowledge areas related to EU fund management are poorly dispersed and fall into different academic fields. Project design methodologies are mainly related to social science studies, while project management is linked to engineering or management studies. There are few courses and programs for EU project managers that combine both knowledge areas despite the greater connection and synergy that can positively influence the ability to achieve project goals more efficiently. This proposal, by uniting universities and organizations with relevant expertise in EU project design and project management, aims to better align higher education curricula with labor market opportunities and requirements for the profile of EU project managers.

SENQUALITY - Preparation For Later Life

Project duration: 1. 12. 2020 – 30. 11. 2022

Project leaders: Dr. Matej Mertik and Dr. Peter Seljak

Financer: Erasmus+, KA2 Strategic Partnerships

Brief project description:

The SenQuality project will develop a preparation tool to support well-being in later life across various important areas. Later life can be an excellent period of our lives – if people have stable health, necessary money, good social contacts, suitable housing and care if needed, etc. Most people realize it will be difficult to maintain the same living standard without any preparation. Yet, despite this awareness, individual preparedness remains too low. SenQuality therefore tries to motivate and support individual pathways in a positive way.

The target group includes both middle-aged and older adults who recognize that preparation for later life changes throughout the lifespan. Financial aspects and other changes related to retirement should play a role as early as possible. Preparation for age-related changes expected at the end of life should intensify up to very old age.

Development Of A Tailormade Comprehensive Training Concept On Sarcopenia For Health Care Workers - E-SARC

Project duration: 1. 11. 2021 – 30. 10. 2024

Project leader: Prof. Dr. Uroš Marušić

Financer: ERASMUS+, KA2

Brief project description:

Sarcopenia, the age-related loss of muscle mass and strength, has recently been recognized as a disease by WHO. The most cited operational definition today is proposed by the European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People (EWGSOP), updated in January 2019, which is why sarcopenia is a relatively new disease. On one hand, the fact that the world population is aging (United Nations, 2019). On the other hand, the world faces major health challenges such as cancer and recently the COVID-19 pandemic, making sarcopenia as a disease very important. The European consensus on sarcopenia is recent. Currently, within European borders, there are no courses for general practitioners or healthcare workers. Among various target groups, there is a great need for knowledge and new skills to similarly address sarcopenia. The EU would benefit from comparable courses according to EQF/ECVET. European coordinated training according to EQF is not satisfactorily implemented even at the national level. There is a great need to design comprehensive learning units within existing EU systems. Many stakeholders deal with sarcopenia (in research, workplace, ...), but often focus on only one topic, while sarcopenia requires a multifactorial approach. Furthermore, no translation of research findings or practical experiences from the workplace has been combined and translated into good training and education concepts. Last year, due to the COVID pandemic, new training concepts were developed. More attention was given to online learning or a combination of traditional education and online training.

Beyond Sport Through A No Brain, No Gain Project (BRAIN)

Project duration: 1. 11. 2022 – 30. 10. 2024

Project leader: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Luka Šlosar

Financer: ERASMUS + SPORT

Brief project description:

The established BRAIN project consortium has extensive expertise in physical education and physiotherapy practice, contributing to the development of the "Enriched Environment for Physical Activity" program and related educational courses aimed at including low-income countries in high-quality physical activity interventions while overcoming major barriers to participation of people with disabilities in physical activities.

The BRAIN project will provide guidelines for creating cognitively demanding physical activities by developing and testing an exercise program based on "enriched environments," recognized as essential for readiness for literacy in preschool age and later academic achievements (Shaul & Schwartz, 2014; Oberer et al., 2018).

Hybridlab

Personal Safety Of Medical Staff When Dealing With Aggressive Or Agitated Patients And In Dangerous Situations (SAFEMEDIC)

Project duration: 1. 11. 2018 – 30. 6. 2021

Project leader: Dr. Goran Gumze

Financer: Erasmus+, KA2 Strategic Partnerships

Brief project description:

The International Labour Organization has classified medical professions among the most vulnerable to workplace violence. This stance is supported by a pre-project survey of the consortium, in which a questionnaire was distributed among key stakeholders from whom we received more than 1000 responses. Results showed that only 5.9% of respondents who have contact with patients said they were never verbally attacked, while 62.5% had been victims of physical attacks at least once.

The main goal of the "SAFEMEDIC" project is to improve the safety of healthcare workers at the workplace by increasing their knowledge and competencies for handling difficult circumstances and relationships. To achieve this, the project consortium will design and develop a complex interdisciplinary course for nursing students, with special emphasis on paramedics and nurses. The learning materials and intellectual outputs of the project will also be available to other healthcare workers such as doctors and physiotherapists. Learning materials developed so far within the project are available for distance learning.

Renewing Ergonomic Education For Health Care Students In European HEIs

Project duration: 1. 9. 2019 – 31. 8. 2022
Project leader: Dr. Goran Gumze
Financer: Erasmus+, KA2 Strategic Partnerships

Brief project description:

The RENE project will improve and unify education on patient handling during transfers in health programs. The project aims to develop and standardize an international course on patient handling during transfers and promote the internationalization of students in health sciences and professions.

One of the goals is also to raise awareness about proper and healthy patient handling during transfers and rehabilitation in the health sector.
