This year, the Dance Academy of Alma Mater Europaea University organized the fifth dance section titled Dance between Tradition and Innovation as part of the 12th international conference For the Sake of Humanity 2024.
The section was divided into two parts, moderated by the dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Svebor Se0dak, and Assoc. Prof. Rosana Hribar, head of the contemporary dance department.
The first part addressed topics on the connection between dance and digital technology, continuing the themes of previous conferences and expanding research into the field of artificial intelligence in dance education. The second part explored the interplay of contemporary dance and flamenco and demonstrated how dance reflects art and culture.
The section was opened by the keynote speaker Dr. Alice Siu (Stanford University) together with Tatjana Christelbauer (Agency for Cultural Diplomacy in Vienna) with the presentation The Book of Copp e9lia: Debate, Truth, Trust, and Hope, in which they explored the impact of artificial intelligence on dance and ethical questions. Among the outstanding lecturers were also Dr. Simona Somacescu with the presentation Ballet Performance Between Tradition and Innovation and Dr. Simona Noja-Nebyla, who emphasized in her lecture Classical Ballet as a System of Systems the necessity of transforming ballet education for the modern era.
Master's students Ana Germ and Jerneja Omahen Razpotnik presented research on contemporary challenges in ballet education and its role in dance pedagogy. The second part presented contributions on contemporary dance and flamenco prepared by Johanna Rebecca Greiner, Juan Carlos Lerida, Ana Pandur, and Mar a de los ngeles Cenizo Salvago.
Dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Se0dak, selected five outstanding contributions for publication in the conference proceedings and emphasized the importance of connecting tradition and innovation in the world of dance.

The Academy of Dance combines tradition and contemporary approaches to dance art and offers undergraduate and master's degree programs. Our students and professors actively participate in domestic and international projects and conferences, where they co-create the future of dance art.
