Elective subjects in study programs allow students to co-design their studies and thus already during their studies focus on a specific professional field or expand their knowledge to areas outside their discipline. Study programs include two "types" of elective subjects – internal electives and external electives.
Internal elective subjects are subjects that belong content-wise to the narrower or broader professional field of the study program. They are defined by the study program as elective subjects.
External elective subjects can be chosen by the student within other accredited study programs of Slovenian and foreign universities, or from the selection of internal elective subjects of the study program. Restrictions on the choice of external elective subjects depend on the requirements of the study program. A student can also choose an internal elective subject of the study program as an external elective subject.
If a student wishes to complete a certain subject within other accredited study programs of Slovenian and foreign universities or independent higher education programs, they must apply to the ESM office, which verifies:
- whether the subject content matches at least 80% with the study program, and
- whether the other university or independent higher education institution agrees to this.
Study programs differ in the number of elective subjects, as each study field is specific in this regard. Therefore, the student must be well acquainted with the study program in which they are enrolled, especially the restrictions on external elective subjects, which we have presented in more detail below.
A student can complete up to 15% ECTS within internal and external electives.
